Pamela Gennari, A proposito di una recente raccolta di studi sulle esplorazioni geografiche fra Medioevo ed Età Moderna
On a recent collection of studies of geographical explorations in the Middle Ages and Modern Age
Regarding the 58th volume of the review Médiévales an endeavour is made to highlight those elements that best delineate the impact of geographical discoveries in the humanistic epoch on the world of Culture and Knowledge in some countries in the Mediterranean area. Then there is an examination of the first of the two sections making up the collection – Humanisme et découvertes géographiques – dealing with some texts and objects typical of the day like terrestrial globes, portolans and world maps, able to give not only a particular vision of these, but also to widen the discussion to their historical reference context. The same can be said of the writings of authors like Marco Polo, Angelo Poliziano, Antonio Pigafetta and Massimiliano Transilvano, in their own way direct exponents of the same ideological and social change.
In the second part, entitled Essais et Recherches, there are contributions distant from the theme suggested by the title of the volume because they are placed, along the temporal line, in a rearguard position, succeeding nevertheless in making a fundamental contribution for the constitution of an ampler and more complete picture of the “Italian material.”

Pamela Gennari è cultore della materia di Filologia Romanza presso l’Università Ca’ Foscari di Venezia, dove dapprima si è laureata in Lingue e Letterature Moderne e Contemporanee Occidentali – titolo della tesi: Le thème de la révolte dans deux chansons de geste médiévales: «La Chanson de Roland» et «Raoul de Cambrai» - per poi specializzarsi in Filologie Medievali e Moderne con la tesi: «Dialogues de Saint Grégoire”. Volgarizzamento in prosa antico-francese dei “Dialogi” di San Gregorio Magno (ms. Paris, nouv. acq. fr. 1693)». Ha conseguito poi il titolo di Dottore di Ricerca in Filologia classico-medievale (2006-2009) con l’edizione critica commentata di una redazione veneziana quattrocentesca del “Milione” di Marco Polo («Milione»: redazione VB. Edizione critica commentata.). Ha ottenuto anche un assegno di ricerca in ambito filologico-digitale (“La tradizione manoscritta del Milione: per un catalogo digitale dei testimoni in volgare”).
Attualmente si occupa anche di ricerche testamentarie della Venezia del Trecento e del Quattrocento finalizzate alla ricostruzione della storia commerciale di alcune famiglie veneziane dell’epoca.
