Ms. FN I 14 of the Franciscan Library in Palermo. Documents for the history of the Margi estate in the territory of Corleone
The article gives a palaeographic, diplomatic and content analysis of ms. FN I 14, kept in the Naselli Flores and Guasconi collection at the Franciscan Library in Palermo. The volume contains the documents relating to the vicissitudes of the Margi estate in the territory of Corleone, that is to say the documents of one of the 79 estates into which the aforesaid commune was divided in the 16th-17th centuries. The examination of the manuscript stresses the peculiarity of its making and its material appearance and the characteristics of the writings with which the single deeds were drawn up. The latter, done at different times by different compilers, afford a big sample of writings that despite their individual peculiarities have been recognized to be expressions of the admirable variety attained by post-humanistic cursive. As regards the diplomatic aspect, the collection includes private notarial documents compiled in the Sicilian sphere, the intrinsic characteristics of which have been analyzed, an endeavour being made to underline now the divergences in them and now their adjustment to the usual pattern of private notarial production. Lastly, as concerns the contents, analyzing the papers in the volume it was possible to reconstruct the history of the Corleone estate in a time span going from 1652 to 1800, and specifically the data have been highlighted that relate to the line of hereditary succession, to the owners and the overseers of the estate, to its annual taxation and payments of the latter.

Sabrina Crimi nata a Palermo nel 1985, nel 2010 ha conseguito la laurea specialistica in Filologia Moderna presso l’Università degli Studi di Palermo con una tesi in paleografia e diplomatica (relatore Diego Ciccarelli). Nel medesimo anno ha perfezionato i suoi studi acquisendo il diploma di Archivistica, Paleografia e Diplomatica rilasciato dall’Archivio di Stato di Palermo. Ha recentemente collaborato alla redazione dell’edizione diplomatica del Codice diplomatico di Castrogiovanni, pubblicato dalla Biblioteca Francescana di Palermo a cura di C. Bonarrigo.
